BBC Radio Solent Experience

Happy New Year everyone

Well today was a new experience as I appeared for the first time on BBC Radio Solent with presenter Julian Clegg.   I wrote to Julian a few weeks before Christmas telling him about my 2016 Coast2Coast cycling adventure and was invited to become one of Julian’s People on his morning breakfast show.   This involves going into the studio in Southampton once in a while and being interviewed live on air about my story.   Today was somewhat nerve racking but I enjoyed the experience and having listened to the recording on iplayer thought it came across quite well which I was pleased about.

In the last few days I have also made public that I will be riding for Dorothy House and Naomi House & Jacksplace as my chosen charities for my ride across America.   Both charities mean a lot to me, Dorothy House for caring for my mother in law, Dolly in those last few weeks of her life and Naomi House & Jacksplace for the love and care they provide to the younger generation with life limiting conditions.   I wrote to both charities a few weeks before Christmas and both are going to provide as much publicity support as they are able which will help no end.   In addition I have been invited to Naomi House for a guided tour at the beginning of February which I am very much looking forward to.

On the training front, I did manage to cycle 251 miles in December, should have been more but the weather paid a part and for several of my rides I was confined to the Turbo Trainer in the garage.

I am looking forward to and excited by the challenges that 2016 hold for me.   It’s going to be a tough year, both physically and mentally but I have a great team around me and know that I can count on them when the going gets tough.
