Day 8- Rest Day in Bandon
After 7 days of hard riding it was nice waking up this morning and not having to get on the bike. Despite it being rest day there were still chores to do starting with walking to the local laundry to get my washing done and out of the way. I was first there and had it all done and dried before 08:30.
I grabbed a quick coffee and then headed over to Dom’s quarters to get the bike cleaning equipment. The bike had taken a battering over the past 7 days and it took me the best part of an hour to wash it down, dry it off and then lubricate the drive chain before returning to my room to put the various bits and pieces bag on it in preparation for tomorrow’s ride.
I managed to speak to mum and dad this morning too which was good. Dad sounded a lot better, less breathless and mum has her new hearing aids on order so making some progress. Carole was with them so had a chat with her too which was nice.
About 11:30 I headed off to town and met Nick on the way. Bandon is nothing special and within a few minutes we had seen what there was to see and found a coffee shop. Being lunchtime we both felt the need to each something with our coffee! Steph, Michael and Roy sought us out and joined us and we stayed for an hour or so sheltering from the rain that had started. Once it had eased a little, Nick and I then walked back to our motel calling in at the local convenience store for provisions.
I spent the rest of the day tidying up the photo’s that I had taken to date, writing this blog and watching American TV. The weather for tomorrow is not looking good with rain and a headwind forecasted but we only have 60 miles to ride so can delay our start if necessary. Hopefully the weather will improve over the next few days – I really could do with some nice warm west coast sunshine.
