Day 20 – Elchingen to Donauworth

Another short day today of just 48 miles but after several days of dreary skies the sun did eventually break through and we rode in pleasantly warm temperatures although we still had a headwind.

The ride started with a trail that ran through a forest but we were soon back beside The Danube which was now getting quite wide in places.  With a short day we were more relaxed and stopped again at the halfway point in a town called Dillingen and found a little cafe and enjoyed lunch sat outside in the sunshine.

The ride into Donauworth was primarily along country lanes/roads with a good surface and we made good time arriving in Donauworth shortly after 15:00.

The highlight of today was meeting up with my old work colleague, Hans Wetzstein and his lovely wife Claudia who very kindly hosted us for dinner at their home in Donauworth.  I have not seen Hans for over 8 years and it was good to chat about old times and hear about their past and forthcoming cycling adventures.  Thank you Hans and Claudia for your kindness and hospitality this evening and for the lovely meal that you prepared for us.
