Day 35 – Sombor to Backo Novo Selo

Today was our 3rd long mileage day in a row, although slightly shorter than the two previous days at just 75 miles.  In total we would have cycled 250 miles in the past 3 days, something I have not done for a very long time.

We left promptly at 08:30 this morning and initially the road surface was quite respectable and we made good progress.  At 35 miles into the ride we stopped for an official team photo as we reached the 2,000 mile point of our trip.  It’s hard to believe that just 5 weeks ago we were arriving in Saint Nazaire at the start point of our European adventure.

Today we cycled very close to Croatia and even came across an official border crossing at one point in the ride just before lunch.  We stopped at a Super Market and grabbed some lunch and supplies.

The afternoon ride was hard work, it was hot, the roads were littered with potholes and the combination of the two sucked the energy from your body.  The last 20 miles were really hard work on the top of a kevi, and whilst the scenery was ok I will confess that I was very glad to make it to our hotel this evening.
