Day 45 – Bechet to Fantanele

After a few days of not feeling 100% I slept well last night and awoke this morning feeling in good shape once again. Just as well really because today was our final long mileage day of this trip – 77 miles.  It would be good to get this one behind us and knowing that the remainder of the riding days were at the most in the 60’s mileage range.

We left Bechet promptly at 08:30 and headed out on the same road as we arrived on yesterday afternoon.  In deed, today was one of those days that was easy to navigate, out of the hotel, turn left, ride 77 miles and arrive at new hotel.  I did a few of these rides when riding across the USA in 2016 and it makes navigation very very easy.

We set a good pace to start the day, too fast for me initially and so I dropped back a little and the pace subsequently eased for a few miles. The road surface was good, not much wind and it was good that I was feeling a lot better and back to my normal self.  We stopped around mile 30 to take a few photos of a monument and around mile 45 we arrived at a town called Turnu Magurele where we stopped for a proper lunch.  It was good to sit down for nearly an hour, enjoy a nice coffee, lunch and a cold coca cola before heading out for the final 30 miles of the ride.

The final 30 miles were quite fast, each taking it 8n turns to lead the pack and set a good pace. The last 5 or 6 miles were a little more relaxed before we rolled into the small town of Fantanele around 16:00.

We have a nice hotel this evening, really nice rooms and I have a nice luxury bath tub and soaked away my aches and pains for 45 minutes and fell asleep in the tub. The only problem being, there is no food at the hotel (dinner or breakfast) and the nearest restaurant is 6 miles away!  We therefore had to improvise this evening by going to the local store, grabbing some beers and food and then coming back to the hotel and sitting around their table and have a picnic style evening meal.  Not the best end to a 77 mile day but hey, these things happen and we didn’t starve and we will certainly enjoy breakfast tomorrow in the town 6 miles up the road!
